gmg733,
Would you post some of your trades (Options)... it would help give a feel for when and condition and which dates/strikes.
Thanks in advance

And in RT.
(My apologies for asking ... I know. It's a lot of typing & frequently inconvenient.)

BTW, this kind of highly volatile market is perfect for options .. because they're cheap.
I certainly wouldn't want to spend 5 figures on a position just to make a few hundred dollars in a day.
IMHO, too risky ...

I'm particularly interested in shorting the rallies.
(Unfortunately, I'm usually wrong.)

I'll try to post my options trades, no problem. I trade options in futures in a TD account and I trade options in my tastyworks account.
There isn't much to it, boring actually.
1. Only trade liquid stuff. I trade a lot of ETFs and things like AAPL, FB, BIDU, TSLA, etc
2. Optimal time frame is between 45-60 days out
3. Trade stuff with high IV (I have this set up on ToS and Tastyworks does it by default)
4. The hard part. Learn how to adjust trades, i.e. roll things up and down and out
Here is the deal, timing is nothing the way I trade volatility. I just happened to get lucky in FB and TSLA the past few weeks to make the trades at the right time

@karen
Shorting in 2017 on index was brutal for me. Sticking to individual non FANG was profitable. Every time I sold strangles or calls in index last year i got in trouble. Things have changed. Pick your favorite over bought indicator, wait for over bought or resistance and sell a 15-30 delta call around 45ish days out (nothing within 21 days).
Purely by math you have a 70-85% probability of profit when managed at 50% of max profit. I never hold until expiration. I manage closer strikes at 20% max profit and strangle type trades at 40%.
Trade small too.

@greg .... I'm interested in your trades also. Have traded options myself quite a bit over the years and have a decent knowledge. Pretty much only use them now for synthetic shorts or protection. Will also trade the odd short term index options when the spy or qqq gets way oversold. Nevertheless, everyday is a learning day ...
