BTW, I will also share this ....
According to "a source", something "big" is supposed to happen in February causing a market drop.
Another reason Y I'm staying "conservative".
Of course, I'll admit, I've cried wolf on these boards many times, so, .. whatever.
****************************************************************************************************
historically it's a poor performer between 5th and 26th of Feb
We would have to see the VIX above 16 cuz bears need volatility to survive.

Regarding Karen's source and something big in February.

I have some military family friends who are suggesting that there is a big call out to staff up a February deployment. All of the details are secret, of course (well....nobody's telling me anyway), but one might extrapolate at a ramping up on the war front.

Trump said he's send more troops to Afghanistan, I believe they have about 14000 soldiers deployed there. That war has being going on forever it seems.

@ JP,
"FB rips to all time high on earnings beat, but slight miss on user growth."
====================
The headline could've said the opposite:
"FB drops on slight miss on user growth".

BTW, HOW does FB make money?

Karen - Something big is supposed to happen - do you mean like a Global Currency Reset?

@ dave,
It was from a synopsis that I read. It did not say "currency reset".
It said "something big" would happen in February to cause turmoil in the markets and but stocks would recover. Two weeks later, when I was listening to the Larry Kudlow show, he implied something similar. He was interviewing some hedge fund manager who said stocks were expensive. Kudlow then said, (paraphrasing) any major correction would be a buying opportunity because he thought the markets would recover.
However, Dave!!!
Please keep in mind, that I read a LOT. Unfortunately, some of the stuff I read is BS or frequently the timing is off.
For example, do you remember Bill Gross who ran the Janus Fund? Bill Gross was very highly respected in money mgmt circles, and after he left Janus, in the Spring of 2015, he said the "supercycle" in stocks would end.
I immediately posted the article here.
It didn't happen. But, on the other hand, the Shemitah followed in the Fall and stocks crashed. (Of course, hindsight being 20/20 - it was a "correction".)
Then, there was the trader who bet $260 million on the VIX that the market would crash in Aug-Sept 2017.
Well, it didn't exactly "crash", but there was a big correction, and a subsequent rebound which we are enjoying now. By the time I posted the article, stocks had already started going up again. I believe it was in October that AMZN had dropped back down to it's July low of around $950 (and has since rebounded).
So, altho' it's good to be cautious, don't make the mistake I've made over and over again -- being excessively cautious, being out of the market at the wrong time and missing profits .. all for naught.
Nevertheless, it is February .... so, we shall see.
😉

@ Dave,
BTW, the post above is why I don't trade anymore.
Earlier this year I realized, in the long run, I would've been better off just holding thru thick n' thin.
So, I no longer trade positions. I also dislike "gambling", so I don't trade options anymore either.
I simply have a portfolio and I look at filters only to add to the portfolio.
Right now, I've got 3 stocks in the gutter. In the past, I would sell the losers and trade something else.
NOT doing that anymore.
For me (and I'm only speaking for myself), it's just a waste of time & money.

I just want to mention to "newbies", that when you come here, it looks like everyone is trading.
That is NOT so. There a lot of members here who don't trade.
Please note in the upper left hand corner of the home page it says, "Stock Screening and Analysis".
There are a lot of subscribers here who know this software inside/out and don't "trade".
In the type of bull market we've been in the last 10 years, you can make plenty of money just holding and save yourself a lot of work.
JMHO.

I follow a former trader online, who is strictly a technical analyst. He said the same thing about late February. i.e. the next couple days will be a minor correction but late February will be north of 5%. If I can understand the technical explanation towards the end of the month, I will post it here to let some folks be cautious.
