In basic terms, the further you go out in time the higher volatility is and is considered normal. You can see this by looking at /VX and the prices or any liquid equity options chain for that matter. Binary events will cause a case where you get contango such as an election, some event that happened like a terror event or in an equities case earnings.
Metals taking off.

Do you follow Eli Mintz's blog the guy who created ^VIX Central Blog? ^VIX settled at 9.90.
You said anything above 5 is good for XIV?

I think you are talking about contango levels? My eyeball on the vixcentral contango data was that if the contango level was above 5% (which seems to be almost always nowadays) that long XIV would be a favored position.
Frankly, the best time to buy or add to a current XIV positions is when it goes BELOW 5%, since it always seems to bounce back up again pretty quickly.

Are you still using the SF signals or the SS signals for XIV?
Or your newest NN?
Just curious since your post on XIV a couple days back didn’t line up with the SF signals
so I assumed it had to be from your SS filters but then remember you also are now using
the NN filters you developed
Again - just curious
Thank you for your time

I really don't use SF filters any more - no criticism intended, it's just that I find that other software programs better suit my personal trading style.
Mostly using my SS multisystem and a set of neural network filters for trading XIV right now.

Based on my NN systems - bought 2,000 shares of XIV at $111.30, put in a limit order for another 2,000 at $110.70. I trust the system but do not trust the current tax reform debate to make it through the Senate. Therefore I am taking a smaller position than my systems would suggest.
